Axselle Auto
Service, Over 50 Years of Customer Care
Axselle's Auto Service was established in 1951 by Ed Axselle with the
support of his wife Alma Axselle. His lifetime goal was to own and operate
his own service station. After some working at Tredgar Inc. Works, he and a
friend by the name of T.B. Watson opened a Texaco where Ceman Brothers
resides now. He worked at Reynolds Metals during the day and at the station
at night.
Ed realized how much he enjoyed this type of work and how much he enjoyed
helping others in this profession so he dissolved his partnership and began
operating his own service station in the Hub Shopping Center where
Huckleberries is now.
As time went on, the current location, 5515 Lakeside Ave came up for sale
and Ed went on to rent, than buy the property and became the full time
proprietor, mechanic, office manager and "jack of all trades" at the new
location where Axselle's Auto Service now resides.
Ed was innovative in running his business. He knew the value of treating
customers right., the values of honesty and hard work and was a great mentor
to his two sons and for all those who worked with him. The station was open
7 days a week from 7 in the morning until 10 at night.
Upon graduating high school his eldest son Bobby went to work for the
phone company but soon found himself most at home at the service station
where the station was known as Axselle and Son. Later in life Ed's second
son Dave came to work for the service station where it became fondly known
as Axselle and Sons.
Ed Axselle passed away in 1980, his wife Alma is still active in the
business today. Bob Axselle after 40 years of service retired in 2002.
